United Airlines using intelligent gate entry to improve parking lot security & traffic flow

The Client: United Airlines, Inc. (commonly referred to as United) is a major American airline headquartered at Willis Tower in Chicago, Illinois.

United operates a large domestic and international route network spanning cities large and small across the United States and all six inhabited continents.

Measured by fleet size and the number of routes, it is the third-largest

airline in the world after its merger with Continental Airlines in 2010.

The Challenge: United has many different types of people requiring access to their airport parking facility including airport-based employees, flight crews, and contractors. Airline executives and flight crews needing urgent access to the airport found themselves competing with employees & contractors who have no urgency. Late arrival of flight crews possibly risks delaying passenger flights. Airport Security also needed a fast simple way to remotely managing access to the airport parking facility without needing to pay ongoing monthly fees.

The Solution: At the advice of United’s preferred perimeter security integrator Metro Access Control, United selected ZKTeco Atlas access control panels combined with RFID readers and badges. As noted by MAC owner John Kozak, “I usually recommend the ZKTeco Atlas access control system for clients needing to secure less than 50 access points. From an installer’s perspective the system is incredibly fast & simple to install because it requires no software and needs minimal wiring. My clients appreciate the advanced security Atlas provides, while not not having to pay a monthly a fee. It’s a win-win as far as I’m concerned.

Customer Satisfaction: Representative at United are thrilled with the Atlas system. It secures their airport parking facility, can be remotely managed, and there are no ongoing associated costs. All company employees & contractors have fast yet secure access to their vehicles and the airport.
